To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Walt Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Paragon FX Group is thrilled to announce our first collectible prop replica from this incredible film.
"Monster Exists, Says French Scientist In Warning To World!" So read the captivating headline from the San Francisco Evening Bulletin. In 1868 rumors are circulating that a sea monster has been attacking ships in the Pacific Ocean. At the request of the US government, Professor Pierre Aronnax is asked to investigate; later realizing the monster is Captain Nemo's man-made, "submerging boat" The Nautilus.
While researching the newspaper prop used in the film, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Paragon FX Group's development team was fortunate enough to make the acquaintance of film historian, Michael Corrie. While doing archive work at The Earl Hays Press, Michael was responsible for rediscovering the original printing plates/blocks used to create the paper seen in the film. He was instrumental in not only arranging for us to use the original printing blocks, but he also shepherded our arrangement with The Earl Hays Press to actually print our replicas. The end result, a precise copy of the original screen prop sourced from the original printer.
The Earl Hays Press has been making props for motion pictures since 1922 and Team Paragon is proud to have worked with them in recreating this unique piece of cinematic history.
