The Gracey Collection Series 1: The Haunted Mansion Gate Plaque

Paragon FX Group is proud to have partnered with Disney to present The Gracey Collection. A carefully curated series of replica attraction pieces as seen at The Haunted Mansion. These museum quality replicas will be manufactured in exceptionally low numbers, celebrating their historical significance, while ensuring their heirloom status within your own collection.

Working in only the finest of materials, these pieces are the result of countless hours of research and old-world craftsmanship. In addition to reference provided by The Walt Disney Archives, Team Paragon has also scanned, studied and/or modeled this entire series from known attraction pieces.

As only fitting, this collection begins at the very entrance to Master Gracey’s abode with The Haunted Mansion Gate Plaque as it appeared on the attraction’s opening day on August 9th, 1969. This full-size (24.5"x14.5") breathtaking replica is brought to life with 22 lbs. of foundry cast brass with an uncoated, polished finish that is intended to naturally age in your collection through the years. Each plaque will ship with its edition number laser etched directly into the brass, maintaining the unique exclusivity of each plaque.

Limited to just 199 pieces, this run will be released in waves allowing our artisans ample time to properly craft each hand made plaque.  

Subsequent pieces in the Gracey Collection will be released as we work our way through The Haunted Mansion, exploring the delightfully dreadful props that have entertained you for decades.

NOTE: Brass will naturally age over time, a process that begins the moment the alloy is cast. Each plaque ships as uncoated polished brass, allowing for the weathering and patina oxidation to occur naturally. Outdoor display, especially in more humid locations or with salt air exposure, will speed up this process. Indoor display in stable, dry environments will slow the process. While researching the original opening day Haunted Mansion plaques and the material in which they were cast, history has always suggested bronze or a heavy brass alloy. Both can be polished to a brilliant luster as we've seen from the opening day plaques, and both can tarnish and oxidize as we've witnessed in the years that followed. While researching metal alloys, we also discovered there's an architectural bronze that features a more subdued, reddish-gold tone than the familiar bright yellow one finds in brass. It's called bronze more so due to its color than its metallurgical breakdown. 

Brass and Bronze are both primarily composed of copper. Brass is an alloy made mainly of copper and zinc. Bronze is an alloy made of copper and tin. The secondary elements of zinc and tin give each alloy their distinct mechanical properties and colors. Copper content in brass can fall between 55% to 95% depending on the type. The copper content in bronze can range from 88% to 90% in traditional formulas. 

Due to the incredibly bright appearance of the opening day plaques and the differences we've noted polishing different alloys, our conclusion is the original plaques fall between an architectural bronze and brass. Chemically speaking, both are brass. Brass allows for the proper patina we've witnessed over the years as well as the brilliant finish present on opening day. With that, each replica Haunted Mansion plaque has been foundry cast in solid brass, to be more closely aligned with the originals.
