In 1954, Walt Disney Productions released one of the most ambitious live-action films of its time, the blockbuster cinematic adaptation of Jules Verne's 1879 novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. As Disney's first feature filmed in the expansive CinemaScope format, audiences flocked to cinemas around the globe to witness some of the most incredible visual effects ever put to film up to that point. Advertised as "The Mightiest Motion Picture of Them All," the production team was responsible for designing the richly detailed world in which Captain Nemo and his crew reside aboard the sleek and mysterious Nautilus. Here, Victorian elegance is blended with the industrial necessities of the crew.
Amongst those necessities a special underwater electrical pellet gun. A beautifully crafted device that allowed the crew of the Nautilus to explore their subaqueous world and defend themselves from potentially dangerous creatures of the deep.
